In 2000, New York government officials proposed and enacted the
Healthy New York Program. The purpose of the program was to help
residents obtain New York health insurance. Since the year 2000,
the Health Care Reform Act (Healthy New York) has attained its goal
of aiding many of the state’s citizens receive the health
insurance they need. The program was created especially for small
businesses, sole proprietorships, and individuals. These groups
of people are those most likely to forego health insurance coverage,
because of the high cost. The New York health insurance program
developed a list of criteria to ensure that the small businesses,
sole proprietorships, and individuals with the most need would be
adequately served by the state of New York and the health maintenance
organizations (HMOs).
The state-sponsored health insurance program is a comprehensive
package of healthcare services at an affordable price for the citizens
of New York. These services include inpatient and outpatient care,
x-rays, laboratory tests, routine exams, etc… Specialty services
like maternity care and preventative care are provided. In addition
to this, the Healthy New York Program recently added an optional
prescription drug package so that patients can purchase prescription
drugs at a more affordable price.
The state of New York offers health insurance that is up-to-par
with privately owned health insurance. Small businesses, sole proprietorships,
and individuals no longer have to settle for second-rate healthcare
or no healthcare at all. The state enhances the livelihood of these
people by providing them with top-quality healthcare. Students on
their parents’ health insurance nearing their policy expiration
may be eligible for coverage with the Healthy New York Program,
also. For more information, visit www.healthyny.com.
